Sustainable diets - considering health, environment and cost
Dear Northern Branch members,

During January this year the EAT-Lancet report was published and met with mixed reactions from different fields of the food industry. The media is full of often contradictory information on what is really a nutritional and sustainable diet for humans, so much so that not only the average consumer is confused, but even members working in the field have difficulty sifting through the avalanche for the truth. Prof Friede will put these things in perspective again, so join us for an interesting presentation.

Presentation title: Sustainable diets - considering health, environment and cost

Presenter: Professor Friede Wenhold, Department of Human Nutrition University of Pretoria

Professor Friede Wenhold is a full-time associate professor in the Department of Human Nutrition (Faculty of Health Sciences) University of Pretoria. Her professional field of expertise is in the area of nutritional assessment of individuals and for research, with special emphasis on dietary and anthropometric evaluation, and the scientific validation of such assessment methods. She shares this knowledge in her undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Apart from her passion about teaching, Friede Wenhold also applies her expertise related to nutritional assessment in research studies that require such evaluations. She has published locally and internationally, led and collaborated in numerous multi-institutional and - disciplinary research studies, consulted to the public and private sector, often presented to peers and the public, and reviewed scientific and other publications. The multidisciplinary studies include work related to nutritional water productivity - new concept related to sustainable diets. She is a rated researcher (National Research Foundation).

Parking at Food Science may be limited, enter the campus via University Rd and use the parkade.

From the M1 or the R21 to Pretoria, take the N1 North towards Polokwane until you reach the Lynnwood Road off-ramp.
Exit left into Lynnwood Rd and going in a westerly direction, pass several traffic lights. At the second set of traffic lights after Jan Shoba Street (previously Duncan Street) you will find UP's main entrance on your right.
To get to the parkade, pass the main UP entrance and turn first right into University Road.
The entrance to the University from University Road is on the right.
The parkade is straight ahead of the university entrance.
The entrance to the parkade is on the Lynnwood Rd or south side of the building
