Compulsory Specification for Processed Meat Products webinar
Thursday, 28 November 2019
Presentation title: New Compulsory Specification for Processed Meat Products

Presenter: Ntomboxolo Meisie Katz (General Manager for the Food and Associated Industries division as well as Regional Manager for the Western Cape region at National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS).

A new Compulsory Specification for Processed Meat Products, known as VC 9100, was published by the Department of Trade and Industry on 08 August 2019 and came into force on 08 October 2019, as a direct result of the listeriosis outbreak in South Africa in 2017-2018. The enforcement of this VC is conducted by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) against the South African National Standard (SANS) 885. This VC affects all food businesses that handle, prepare, process, package, refrigerate, freeze, chill, label, mark and store heat-treated and ready-to-eat processed meat products covered in the scope of SANS 885. It includes microbiological and food-safety-related compositional requirements of these products.

Ms Meisie Katz (General Manager for the Food and Associated Industries division as well as Regional Manager for the Western Cape Region at NRCS) will discuss the NRCS and its regulatory mandate, as well as explain and elaborate on its plans and roles in rolling out enforcement of this VC. Join us on 28 November at 12:00 and bring along all your questions. The final 10 minutes of the webinar will be dedicated to answering participantsí questions.
